Integrating NEAR, Blockchain and Crypto into Projects

Sankore 2.0 is an Africa-focused community integrating the NEAR blockchain to projects and solutions conceived and built by local developers in Kenya. Sankore is based in the city of Nairobi, Kenya, and seeks to integrate NEAR technology to offer solutions to problems faced by Africans in the region. This is a revolutionizing strategy, to aid in offering solutions to problems faced by countries in the region and Africa at large. Africa has experienced a series of challenges, with several different interventions, which never seem to comprehensively resolve the problems. Sankore adopts a completely different strategy to confront the challenges faced by Africans. This majorly includes the integration of NEAR and the adoption of Web3 technologies.

Sankore seeks to offer a series of benefits to Africa based on the goals and vision of the company. Africa needs refined technologies to handle the habitual challenges that never seem to be eradicated. Kevin Imani, CEO of Sankore, stated in a NEARCON Lisbon meeting that the goal of Sankore is to onboard projects into the NEAR protocol; projects that seek to offer solutions to challenges in Africa.

“Our goal is to onboard projects on the new protocol. These projects are obvious solutions to regional problems that we know and this is the objective that we have as a guild in the ecosystem. Our vision is to develop a HubSpot of blockchain activities in different cities, which will become nodes in and out of themselves.”

The goals and vision of Sankore not only seek to offer solutions to challenges in Africa but depict an organization offering opportunities to talented Africans. Sankore provides educational value, enlightening Africans on the dynamics of NEAR protocol and blockchain technology. Individuals equipped with this kind of knowledge will be exposed to a wide pool of opportunities, consequently battling the critical challenge of unemployment in Africa.

Education is one of the most important ways Sankore is transforming Africa. Sankore is educating and building a community of web developers in Africa to boost the local capacity in developing NEAR blockchain protocol-based solutions. Kevin believes that blockchain and near technology is still early in Africa, and this attracts several opportunities for interested individuals and parties to make the most of the new frontier. It is for this reason that Sankore has developed curriculums, which accommodate African needs, with topics around crypto, blockchain, NFTs, and DeFi. As NEAR, blockchain and crypto provide massive opportunities, Sankore CEO encourages Kenyans and Africans at large to seize and harness the importance of crypto in transforming Africa.

“Many of you may know that the first pillar of Sankore is education. Education is important as people need to understand what the space is about, its importance, and why they should care. We still are early and I cannot stress this enough. It is not just in the West that crypto integration is early, but specifically for the continent of Africa is incredibly early, and that excites me more than anything because I see opportunities.”

Sankore chose Kenya as the continental headquarters because of Kenya’s positioning in the technological map and crypto adoption. According to the Switzerland Global Enterprise¹, Kenya is Africa’s silicon Savannah. Kenya is at the forefront of Africa’s emerging tech landscape and is rapidly attracting international businesses to its innovative ICT sector. The Switzerland Global Enterprise appreciates Kenya’s thriving tech scene as, “home to the most cutting-edge startups on the continent.” The Africa Report² on the other hand reported Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, and Tanzania as the leading countries in crypto adoption in Africa. These two factors contributed to Kenya being chosen as the continental headquarters of Sankore 2.0.

Main Projects

The benefits brought by Sankore that are transforming Africa can already be seen in their two main projects. The first project is the DeFi solution for the Modelling Industry in Africa. Sankore works with a modeling mother agent company based in Kenya, to resolve transparency concerns in the modeling financial systems. CEO of the modeling company Nyamuoch Girwath stated, “The financial transparency and security of models is lagging and overlooked.” It is for this reason that Sankore partnered with Nyamuoch to offer a DeFi solution for the modeling industry. The goal of the project is to develop a method for timely and transparent payments for modeling projects and to further guarantee payments for models and agencies without the need for intermediaries. This is a project that will yield results and promises to be adopted in other industries in Kenya and Africa at large. The second main project is centered around NEAR’s First Africa-Focused NFT Marketplace. This project brings together the expansive Pan-African multi-skilled professional groups on a common platform to network, connect and collaborate. This social network of individuals will help develop crypto-based solutions for challenges facing Africa. The NEAR Guild Ecosystem that Sankore is building will continue to provide solutions to challenges in Africa, while at the same time developing Web3 products running on NEAR.

Crypto Tours

The education sensitization process is taking shape, with Kenya on the priority list. Sankore has already started a crypto tour in Kenya to sensitize interested individuals and parties on matters regarding crypto and NEAR technology. The crypto tours are based on four critical pillars, which will help the company achieve its goals and reach its vision. The goals of the tour are to scout for talent, while at the same time, imparting education to the participants. Sankore seeks to identify talent that will be instrumental in helping the company seamlessly process the projects that are solutions to challenges facing Africa. This will further provide a pool of opportunities to the talented and educated participants.

Sankore has its expected outcomes in the crypto tours, the main being creation of awareness. In this information age, access to quality information is guaranteed to provide benefits to a person, an entity, a group, or a project, especially in developing countries such as those in Africa. Access to quality information translates to access to opportunities. The creation of awareness on the NEAR, blockchain, and crypto technologies means access to quality information that will expose interested individuals to a pool of opportunities. The creation of awareness further increases the NEAR presence in Africa, a much-needed move to use NEAR to provide solutions to African challenges.

Sankore aims to cover an extensive reach, of the right target audience. The target audience includes crypto traders, who need education and knowledge to make the most of their trading skills. Fintech professionals are also among the target audience, as they have access to financial customers, and can use this opportunity to further reach a wider audience of interested individuals. Sankore further targets policymakers, as their expertise is needed in policy formulation, to accommodate blockchain and NEAR technologies in the African counties. Accountants and bankers, as well as college and university students, are among the target audience, who make the perfect candidates for education by Sankore.

Africa continues to face challenges and the perceived conventional solutions do not seem to resolve the challenges. Sankore brings on board a whole different perspective on how to handle the challenges in Africa. This is through the integration of crypto, blockchain, and NEAR technologies, to projects meant to eradicate challenges in the continent. To incorporate these technologies in the projects, Sankore educates interested participants and other critical target audiences on the importance of the technologies. This educational value provided by Sankore has immediate benefits, owing to the opportunities the beneficiaries harness in the course of their education. The education initiatives such as the crypto tour provide the much-needed awareness and educational value, vital to process seamless onboarding of the technologies to projects in Africa.
