Hello people of Kisumu City! Sankore is coming back to the Lake region for the second time, to do what it does best - guide developers on developing blockchain applications. Our first NEAR-Meet in Kisumu was integrated into the Lake Basin Innovation & Investments Week (LBIIW) 2021. We met a community of creatives, programmers, hackers, and designers, and we largely focused on girls from underprivileged backgrounds. This time around, we call on every developer, boy, and girl, man and woman, to join us on this second visit, and be guided in developing blockchain applications.
The world is gradually ushering in Web3. Web3 is the next evolution of the internet that promises a decentralized internet built on the blockchain. Blockchain was initially created to enable cryptocurrency but has since been widely touted for its potential to transform entire industries. Web2 may be interactive, but is congested with developers and innovation seems to have clocked its limits. On the other hand, there is an unmet demand for developers in Web3, and perhaps the best time to learn how to develop decentralized applications is now. Your expertise is needed on the flip side. Here is why you should develop and build on blockchain applications.
Reinforced Security - Blockchain technology prioritizes security, by ensuring a secure record-keeping mechanism. Each transaction or activity is approved before record keeping. The transaction detail is further encrypted and connected to the preceding transaction/ activity and the cycle continues.
Time and Cost Efficiency - Blockchain applications are built to automate transactions and rid users of the several processes involved in traditional applications. This ensures speed and efficiency in transactions while eliminating the risk of human error.
Improved Transparency - Blockchain apps are not owned by a single entity. This means that users will have increased trust in the system, as they will not worry about ulterior motives by corporations to manipulate their data.
No Internet Censorship - Since no central authority owns blockchain applications, the apps prevent internet censorship violations. Blockchain apps are decentralized in nature and therefore do not depend on a single I.P address. Not even the government authorities can block the DApp.
Reliability - Extremely high uptime. Dapps hardly experience any downtime. The applications are maintained by the participants and remain fully functional.
The world is headed for freedom, where there is no interference by government, financial institutions such as banks, and other third-party intermediaries. It is time you learn how to build on blockchain applications and offer a solution to people seeking to eliminate intermediaries.
One gets to enjoy the full benefits of decentralized technology by using blockchain applications. Security, immutability, speed, and decentralization are all good, but the icing on the cake is the governance system of decentralized applications. The governance system in DApps makes them far much better and more attractive than traditional applications. Since some central authorities cannot simply shut down Dapps, this makes them more viable and will be the ideal mode of operation sooner rather than later.
It is for this reason that we bring you Sankore instructor Paul Otieno. Paul Otieno is a NEAR Certified Developer, who will guide you on your journey to become a blockchain application developer. Mr. Otieno has taken other students through the process in our learning unit, Sankore Academy. Following the meet-up, Paul will usher you to Sankore Academy, to help you commence your journey to also become a NEAR Certified developer.
We call upon the entire developer community in Kisumu. Students taking Computer Science, Information Technology, and courses in the related fields are welcome. Professionals in IT are encouraged to attend this meet-up and network with minds that think alike in Web3. It will be an opportunity for you to learn about opportunities in NEAR Protocol and Web3. Book your seat HERE!
On 9th April 2022, Sankore will be at Royal City Hotel, Kisumu. The event will kick off at 2 PM East African Time. Come prepared with a laptop and a clear mind. Lunch will be served. The theme of the event is Developing Blockchain Applications.
Sankore 2.0 is an Africa-focused community integrating the NEAR blockchain with projects and solutions conceived and built by local developers in Kenya. As noted in the content of this blog, Sankore 2.0 seeks to promote the development of Web3 products in Nairobi — for Kenya and for Africa as a whole.
